New Student Orientation: Fall 2026
Mon. Aug. 17

Welcome Golden Bears! Fall 2026 Orientation is scheduled for Mon. Aug. 17.
Plan on a full day of activities, information, and fun. Please plan on being on campus Monday from 8:30am - 6pm.

Sat. Aug. 15: Move-In Weekend
New Residential Students
12 – 5pm

New Resident Check-In 
New residents may check into their residence hall by appointment during this time.   

12 – 1pm

Lunch
Bears Den will be open for residential students to eat, using their meal plan.

12 – 2pm

Bookstore Open 
The Bookstore will be open for you to shop and pick-up books.   

5 – 7pm

Dinner
Bears Den will be open for residential students to eat, using their meal plan.

7pm

New Resident Progressive Ice Cream Party & Pick-Up Pickleball
Hogan Hall 1st Floor/Outside

New residents who checked in today should plan on joining us in Hogan Hall! This is your first opportunity to meet your fellow classmates and our Residence Life staff.

Sun. Aug. 16: Move-In Weekend

Offices Open: Take Care of Business
New residents can visit the Bookstore (open until 2pm), the Beckley Hub, Student Health Services, TRIO Student Support Services, the Library, and Student Success Center during this time.

11:30am – 1pm

Lunch
Bears Den will be open for residential students to eat, using their meal plan.

1 – 4pm

Free Afternoon for Residential Students
Choose from any of our afternoon activities or take some time to relax!

  • 1:30 – 2:30pm Dorm Room Bingo: Learning Resource Center – Library
    Join your RAs for Bingo and win some fabulous prizes for your new room.
  • 3 – 4pm Walmart Shuttle: Leaves from Hogan Hall
    Need to grab a few things? Hop on our shuttle to Walmart.
  • Open Office Hours in Hogan Hall
    Do you have questions or need assistance? Stop by the Hogan Hall Office!  We can help you with all of your questions.
4:30 – 6pm

Dinner
Bears Den will be open for residential students to eat, using their meal plan.

7 – 9pm

Required New Resident Meeting and Mentalist Tom Kennedy
Carter Hall Auditorium
All new residents must attend our New Resident Meeting in Carter Hall. Following our meeting, you will want to stick around for Mentalist Tom Kennedy.

Your formal welcome and introduction to WVU Tech. Join your new classmates as President Stuart welcomes you. After Convocation, find your Orientation Group on the Carter Hall Lawn.

    Will you be commuting to campus? Join us to get the scoop on commuter life.  As a commuter, we want you to be involved in your campus – so join us to learn how you can do that!
  • First-Generation Student FAQs: Innovation 204
    I f your parents did not graduate from college – you are a first-generation college student.  This session is for you! Let us answer your questions, give tips for success, and introduce resources.
  • Southern WV -- Your Outdoor Playground: Innovation 214
    New to Southern West Virginia? Learn about everything that surrounds our campus and what there is to do beyond the University border. Find out why Southern West Virginia is one of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in the country.
  • Stupid Questions? That’s Not a Thing: Innovation 110
    This session is here to help answer that question (or all those questions) you may have. We will answer them all! Questions about academics, the dorms, campus – we will answer them all. There may even be some prizes involved!

  • Student Government Association and Student Activities Board: Innovation 110
    Student leaders will be on hand for you to learn more about these important campus groups, what they do, and how you can get involved. Get involved – make sure you don’t miss out!
3– 3:30pm

Orientation Group Meetings
Meet your OL in the ELab Parking Lot (near Innovation & Life Sciences)
Join your OL for an important final group meeting of the day.  They will take time to answer questions

3:30 – 4:30pm

Campus Tours Taking Care of Business

  • 3:30pm: Tour! Come to the Life Science Building to join us for a final tour of campus. Have your class schedule with you so you can make note of where all of your classes will be.
  • 3:30 – 4:30pm: Visit offices to take care of business: Student Life to get your pre-purchased parking permit, The Hub for billing questions, Student Success Center for class questions, and the Bookstore to get books and supplies.
4 – 6:30pm

Welcome Cookout
Join us outside of Bears Den for a Welcome Cookout to close-out your day. We will have food, games, entertainment, and more! End your day celebrating with us. Please bring  your Student ID.
